Yes, you read that correctly, this beer is infact a “lite” beer (or at least the closest we plan to get to one!). This is just a first attempt at producing a “lite” beer (in this case, only about 100 calories and about 4.2% ABV), but one that hopefully doesn’t suck. The inspiration came from friends mentioning the desire to drink more “session” beers in the summer, since higher alcohol beers can hit you pretty quick. On top of that, it seemed like a fun challenge to try making something “lite” but with more flavor than the typical options. To do so, this brew uses only vienna malt instead of the standard pale malt, corn and rice options. Combine that with a handful of hops to make this a more refreshing brew for those warm summer days, you get a beer that is surprisingly more drinkable than you might think! The hops bring a subtle spiciness that helps the more bready vienna malt balance out and produce a beer that is easy to drink one after another (and with only about 100 calories, it’s a bit easier to justify!).
